Dr. Jost Wübbeke is Managing Partner at Sinolytics and one of the world’s leading authorities on China’s economy, industrial policy, and critical raw materials. He advises board-level executives of multinational corporations and SMEs on navigating China’s strategic policies, export controls, and supply chain risks in an era of geopolitical complexity.
His expertise covers rare earths and critical minerals, with deep knowledge of China’s raw material industry, magnets, and their role in global supply chains. He closely monitors China’s evolving industrial policies and export restrictions and assesses their impact on high-tech sectors, including semiconductors. In addition, he develops strategies for supply chain transparency and sustainability, helping companies achieve compliance and resilience in industries such as automotive, mechanical engineering, and advanced manufacturing.
Previously, Jost co-led the Economy and Technology Program at MERICS. He holds a PhD on China’s raw material industry from Free University of Berlin, was a research fellow at Tsinghua University, and studied International Relations and East Asian Economics in Berlin and Bochum.
